My soldier on Memorial day

BathtimeI was upstairs organizing my new studio space when I looked up and saw this, H bathing Tootie. It hit me that this is the perfect image of a military man. I can't think of a more appropriate picture for Memorial day. When most people think of soldiers and the military they think of hulky, burly jarhead type men portrayed in the news and movies. Sure they have that side but it's such a small percentage of who they are. The men (and women) soldiers I've met are extremely family oriented. They are active in their kids lives and love them fiercely*.

*This* is the picture I want others to see of my soldier. A man brave enough to face the nightly bath.

*Fiercely is one of H's words and has seeped into my lexicon. Funny how marriage does that.

Doll Quilt Swap Received

I got my doll quilt in the mail today! Surprise, surprise it was from Martiza of Soto Softies. I am one lucky girl. I've been admiring her work (and secretly hoping hoping hoping that she was my swap partner) for awhile now. She writes about making the quilt here. Hmmmm, which one did I receive?

Unfortunately, my camera battery is charging so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

**edited: I've had several people comment and email me that it must have been painful to cut into that quilt. Actually, I didn't think twice about it. It had several holes and stains in it. I was however, wondering what the person who made the quilt would think of it's sad condition and me cutting into it -- it looks as if it was all quilted by hand with tiny stitches. I imagined that she (or he) would be happy it was getting the attention it deserved.
