Happy Birthday!

Hpic2_1Today, not only is it Halloween but it's H's 39th birthday. He is
an amazing husband and father. I know, most people say that about their spouses but really, it's true. I love how he Fathers Tootie. I could go on and on but I'm afraid I'd bore you to pieces.

Happy Birthday H. I love you fiercely too.

Then logically...

There's been some sickness in the Bucket household thus the lack of posting. I'll be back to posting regularly soon. Until then I give you a brief exchange I had with my 3 year old daughter today so you can get an idea of what she's like:

BlogpickpumpkincopyTootie: "Is cat spelled with a hard C?"

Me: "Yes."

Tootie: "A kitten is a baby cat?"

Me: "Yes."

Tootie: "Why does kitten start with a K and not a C if they are the same thing?"

Me: ???

Tootie: "Is crocodile spelled with a C?"

Me: "Yes."

Tootie: "So, a baby crocodile would be spelled with a K!"

The photo has nothing to do with cats, kittens, crocodiles or baby crocodiles. I just threw it in for good measure.

Half the Sky - eBay auction

  • Jenna doll

Jenna is up for grabs on eBay with 100% of proceeds going to Half the Sky Foundation. Please visit their website to learn more about the great work HTS is doing in China's orphanages. From their website:

"Half the Sky was created by adoptive parents of orphaned Chinese children. Our purpose is to enrich the lives and enhance the prospects for the babies and children in China who still wait to be adopted, and for those who will spend their childhoods in orphanages. We establish early childhood education, personalized learning and infant nurture programs in Chinese welfare institutions to provide the children stimulation, individual attention, and an active learning environment."

I thought Jenna was a little goofy looking while I was working on her so I decided to add to the goofiness and give her ears. I don't normally put ears on my dolls but now I think I may just start. She has a little felt heart in her pocket that is removable. Her hair is decorated with my little hairpin flowers.

Please take a look at all that's being auctioned. You might find something AND help a good cause.

Thanks,
Susan

joy bucket head

Just in case...

"Mommy, you have to wear this pink hat and I'll wear this bucket just in case we go crazy with the scissors it will protect us and, and, and we don't need to worry now if a piece of wood falls from the sky."

My girl always thinking ahead.

Update O'da Blog

I've just made some changes that I want to point out. First, the biggie. I've changed from a Creative Commons copyright to a flat all rights reserved, go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass Go, do not collect $100 dollars, copyright. Quite unfortunately, thievery has been afoot of late. Attorneys have been sought. Advice has been sequestered for future use. I have filled out the forms and have registered my designs with the US copyright office. No longer are my designs under a Common copyright but once registered they will be under a Statutory copyright*. Not that my original copyright is not valid it's just that I have more to back myself up with by registering. Are you hearing the theme song from Highlander yet? "There can be only one." Anyhoo, the button on the right hand side is gone and in it's place is the new copyright notice. I also added faq's in orange. Click on it and you will be taken to my "frequently asked questions" page. This will change when needed. For now, it'll do. Hmmmmm, what else am I forgetting. A photo you say?

This is from today. A childhood friend, Les, turned 40
today. Gah. That sentence doesn't seem right. I've known her since I
was 4 years old. She and her sister were in my wedding. We played
Gilligan's Island and Planet of the Apes as kids. This entailed lots of
me standing and staring at Les while she referred to me as Zira or Lovey. It was the 70's. That's what we did. For her birthday I made her a scarf using Amy Butler fabric. My battery died before I could get any good photos. Tootie took this one
for me. Her viewpoint is interesting isn't it? No wonder experts
encourage adults to squat down to the child's eye level. Looking up
noses must get tiring after awhile.

Off they go

Heading to retail

These are my first dolls to venture into the world of brick & mortar retail sales. I have another 4 almost finished to hit the road as well. Are you reading Mortimer's Mom? I'm debating whether or not I can get a couple bracelet cuffs whipped up to send with them.

On a whim yesterday I decided to change the masthead. The Chinese kite was from a watercolor I painted this past Spring but it just wasn't me. What "me" exactly is I dunno but it's not a Chinese kite.

I wanted to share with you my cherished doll from childhood that, obviously, made a huge impression on me. It's my Dressy Bessy doll. She's pretty well worn. She's missing a button, her foot is ripped, the plastic is starting to dry rot and she smells a little funky but she's still as happy as ever.

WAYRN

My lovely friend Shelba posted a "Where Are You Right Now" (WAYRN) here in which she was inspired to do from Walternatives. Since I am an amateur voyeur and dig seeing how others live I thought I'd share the love and give all you other amateur voyeurs opportunity to peek at my spaces.

DeskcraftroomFirst, I give you the wide shot of our living room turned craft/work/art/office/play room. That's H playing on one of the blogging spaces I use mainly during the day. I tend not to sit for long periods of time here but rather leave my email on so I can flit by, jingle the mouse to stop the screensaver, and check for any new messages. I vary it sometimes and leave a message board up so I can refresh. The red room (Not redrum. That would be creepy) is supposed to be a formal dining room but we use it as a TV/playroom.

DrawingspaceThis next photo is a shot of my drawing table. See how messy it is? I'm not working on a painting or drawing currently thus it has become a catch-all. I hang pictures cut out of magazines for inspiration. Plopped in the middle is a package I need to mail off that's been sitting for a week.

LaptopspaceAnd finally, the place where I do most of writing for my blog. The desk pictured above I do more reading than writing. But here is where I relax. I come to this space (our family room) after Toots goes to bed. I try not to open the laptop until I get some crafting done. Other days I'm not so disciplined.

There you have it. Riveting isn't it?

Diversion

Stuff about me some of you may or may not already know:

  • This is the first episode of Seinfeld I ever watched and it still holds a special place in my heart.
  • Sometimes? When I wait in line, wherever a line may be formed, I count how far from the front I am. Every time the next person is helped I say to myself the number I am from the front.
"I am now 3 people from being first."
"I am next to be first!"
"I am first! Yeah me! I am first."
"I am next! When they say 'I can help the next in line' that'd be me."

I used to do a variation of this at red lights too.
  • I used to think the term "Indie" meant it was made in India. Like Indie movies weren't Independent films but came out of Bollywood.
  • I was my High School's mascot.
  • I despise my silverware, particularly the dinner forks. I have one fork I really like and get excited when it cycles through.
  • 90% of the time I leave one bite left on my plate. I don't know why I do it either. It drives H crazy.
  • I have never made a pie.
