Thrift finds

thrift find

The last Wednesday of the month the local thrift store reduces most items 50 - 75% off. I got 4 skirts, 5 juice glasses and one piece of material. The red skirt above is a United Colors of Benetton. I paid $1 for it. The blue flowered one above looks like something from the 80's or early 90's. It's from The Limited. I'm going to embellish it with some ruffles. We'll see how that goes. My grand total today was $12 (the glasses weren't discounted).

What I've been working on.

preview of illustration

There's a side to me that I haven't shared here on this blog. You've come to know me as someone who sews and makes dolls, bags and crafty stuff. Lately, I have returned to my illustrative roots and I have forgotten how difficult it can be. The above is a little sneak peak at the Children's Book proposal I'm currently working on which is due June 15th. Thus explains the lapse of posting.

I hope the illustration goes the way I think it will. That must sound funny but honestly, when I'm working on a drawing or painting I really don't know how it will turn out until it's done. Even then I tend to go back and fuss over it a little more. I also find that it takes on a personality of it's own and I acquaint myself with that as I work. I suppose the same is true when I work on a doll. I have an idea how I would like her to turn out but they always tend to take on their own little personalities.

Better get back to work.

Old Stink not so stinky anymore

old newf

If you were wondering what kind of dog would compel me to write a haiku or several about his funk, here he be. Stinky no more. We sent him off to the groomers and they worked their magic and he is my lovey guy once more. He's a 12 year old Newfoundland. He was my first baby and is still a very big baby. Tootie loves him and has from the beginning. He likes her. She gives him food.

Haikus for yous

Humidity looms
and your stink cuts through even that.
when will you die, dog?

****

Dog. Oh, beast of mine.
You must be rotting within-
As May flowers bloom.

****

The beast slumbers on.
Moist stale air imprisons funk-
I type, gag and cough.

****

Spring winds blow constant.
Ten men die in the morning!
Your stench proceeds you.
